Features

Maktabat El Hafeed comprises three levels with a total area of 2700 square meters. The building has a capacity to accommodate 150,000 books on open access and in storage and 1000 students. The three levels of the building are:

The Basement: This area accommodates book displays, periodical shelving, a seminar room, a computer laboratory, an audio-visual room, the children's corner, Internet, Archive, research and report sections and storage areas.
The Ground Floor: This level comprises the main entrance and the entrance foyer, the administrative offices of the library, the circulation desk, the card catalogue, reading areas; open access shelving, recent accession display, as well as twelve study cubicles for senior research students and staff.
The Upper Floor: Here, additional shelving and reading areas can be found, as well as open air seating on the library balcony.

Objectives of the Library

•    To provide back up material and information to the University

•    To provide reference material at different levels

•    Facilitate tracing of items

•    Provide lending and reading services

•    To maintain professional cooperation with educational institutes

•    To develop a special collection on women in Sudan.

 

Lending

All students and staff of Ahfad University are allowed to use the library and borrow material. Students are allowed to borrow one book per night, but are allowed to renew books daily. Arabic and English literature books may be borrowed by students for up to seven days. Staff members may borrow any library material for up to seven days with the option to renew. Senior students may borrow up to three books for maximum of seven days


Library Hours:
7:30 a.m. – 1.00 p.m.
Saturday to Wednesday (all year), 2:00 – 8:00 p.m.
