Dissemination Forum of FGM/C Research Studies

GRACe Research forum of 2018. The forum presented  main results of  three studies on FGM/C carried out in Khartoum and Gadaref States as part of the Population Council International (PC) lead FGM/C Research Program.

Researches has been an integral part of the efforts and initiatives of Ahfad University for Women to end Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting, to provide quality evidence needed to bring social change in combating FGM/C. The population Council International (PC) is leading the FGM/C Research Program consortium, which includes African organizations in Africa’s Anglophone, Francophone, Arabic, and Horn sub-regions with some the world’s leading and most experienced researchers on the implementation, evaluation, and communication of interventions and proven practices to end FGM/C. The Gender and Reproductive Health & Rights Resource Center (GRACe), at Ahfad University for Women (AUW), is a member of the PC consortium.

GRACe has carried out three research studies between September, 2016 and July, 2017 in Khartoum and Gadaref states; namely (1) Medicalization of FGM/C in Sudan: Health care provider and families perspectives (2) Improved understanding of gender roles in FGM/C decision-making across differing contexts to create new evidence to inform the design of gendered approaches to FGM/C abandonment (3) Understanding the key elements for designing and implementing social marketing campaigns to develop creative, new approaches to ending FGM/C.
