In light of the development of its' academic staff - including part-timers of the University Preparatory Program (UPP) - the School of Languages has conducted a five-day workshop under the supervision of Prof. Ghazi Gaith from the American University of Beirut from the 16th to the 20th of November 2019. The workshop introduced the staff to the processes of evaluation and assessment, discussing the guiding principles of assessment and evaluation, the stages of evaluation, as well as the different techniques of assessment and how to conduct a portfolio assessment and others.
A big portion of the workshop was dedicated to writing Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for the different courses of the school and the selection of the appropriate assessment techniques and tools. Participants such as teachers working in the University Preparatory Program (UPP) and the English for Specific Purposes (ESP), with assistance and help of the workshop presenter, worked actively and zealously in writing SLOs for their different courses and programs.
Additionally, two of the academic staff members from the School of Languages made presentations on Writing Center and the Continuing Education, both programs the school is intending to implement in the near future. Each presenter explained the vision and mission of the intended program followed by an immense explanation of other future programs the School of Languages plans to implement.
On the last day of the workshop, a meeting was held to discuss different issues related to the workshop proceedings and outcomes with the presence of Prof. Mustafa Khogali, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs.
