A Health Day with Ahfadest around the World and African Women's Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA)


As civic engagement remains a core principle of Ahfad University for Women, we continue to host numerous activities and programs working with and for the community, one of which was a Health Day hosted on the 21st of December 2019 by Ahfad’s Alumni Office and the School of Medicine in collaboration with the African Women's Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA) and sponsored by Elrazi University. The program discussed the different aspects of breast cancer, early check-ups and provide a free health clinic.

The program started with a tour for the visitors around the campus followed by a brief presentation and a video on the history of Ahfad University for Women (AUW). Afterwards, the audience were presented with a speech given by Ms. Joanne Slever, who talked gladly about her trip to Sudan – which was her first one - and how her visit to AUW added even more excitement and value to her stay in Sudan, and she has shown great interest in AUW and its girls, which was promising both for the students and AUW.

Ms. Slever’s speech was followed by another one given by Dr. Hanan Salah Eltayeb, head of the Ahfadest around the World Association and the African Women's Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA), in which she talked about breast cancer, raising awareness about the disease, early check-ups and how women can conduct breast cancer check-ups on themselves. Moreover Dr. Hanan talked more on the new equipment and methods used for breast cancer diagnosis, she also shared stories about her experience traveling around the country on awareness and healing campaigns, and promised Ahfad girls training sessions to enable them to become part of the awareness process.

The health day was concluded by a free clinic held in the School of Medicine, with almost 100 attendees. The free clinic provided free examinations, some were for the breast examination, one using an Ultrasound and another through a manual check-up, and an eyesight examination.
