2nd Association of Sudanese Universities Meeting at Ahfad University for Women

The Association of Sudanese Universities (ASU) held its 2nd meeting at Ahfad University for Women (AUW), at Mahmoud Hajj Al Sheikh Hall on the (14/10/2020) with the honourable presence of Professor Gasim Badri, the president of AUW and representatives from other Sudanese universities such as the University of Kassala, Sudan University of Science and Technology and National Ribat University.

The ASU was established on the 15th of November 1995 and has an independent legal entity. It strives to progress and fulfil the professional and societal goals of higher education in creating credible and excellent future professionals as well as ensure higher education institutions produce high quality researches that contribute positively to the Sudanese community. The chairman of the ASU is Prof. Fadwa Abdelrahman Ali (University of Khartoum Vice -chancellor). The ASU encompasses more than 90 certified Sudanese Higher Educational Institutions that award at least the degree of bachelor.

The meeting began with a few verses of the Holy Quran, then with a word from Professor Gasim Badri, and a short video depicting AUW’s history since its foundation till the present day, and the different academic and co-curricular activities taking place within AUW.

Many important educational points were raised during the meeting among which, the ASU emphasized the need to prioritize education for women and girls which has been long championed by Ahfad University Women since 1907, in full accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals number 4; Quality Education: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, and the goal number 5 - which AUW has been chosen as the United Nations Academic Impact Hub to - Gender Equality; achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. The meeting was productive and fruitful at a time where higher education institutes need to join forces and advocate for women’s education more than ever.
