Mission

Ahfad University for Women encourages both basic and applied research by its professional staff, its post –graduate and its undergraduate students. Promoting and conducting research are part of the mission of the university and clearly stated in its act and constitution.

 

Goal

The overall goal is to build and strengthen research capacity of the staff of AUW and to promote use of   research results in policy making and planning.

 

Objectives

a) To Stimulate and encourage staff and student research across the University (by seminars, workshops conferences on research methodology, writing of research and protocol proposals and papers for publication etc.)

b) To keep all faculty members informed of available sources research grants local and abroad.

c) To promote communication between researchers within the university.

d) To endorse all staff research proposals technically and ethically.

e) To facilitate and activate links with research institutions at national, regional and international levels

f) To assist in dissemination of research findings

g) To document and report on the university research activities

h) To prepare the annual research report of the university and refer it to University Research Committee.

i) To liaise with post –graduate studies, research institutions in AUW and local and international links.

The Director of Research and Grants will be in charge of an executive office    (See Organizational Chart) to facilitate the above functions.

 

The University Research Committee.( URC)

The University Research Committee is a standing advisory committee of the Academic Council.

Composition:

1. VP Academic Affairs-Ex-officio

2. Director of research and Grants - Ex-officio

3. Chairperson of Post-Graduate Studies-Ex-officio

4. One representative of at least associate professor status from each school-elected by the school council and from Institutes and centres.

5. Two faculty members of professorial status appointed by the VP Academic Affairs.

6. The chairperson of the committee shall be appointed by the president of AUW.

Functions of the committee:

1. To encourage and promote research in AUW

2. To act in an advisory capacity to the VP Academic Affairs in research and grants policies.

3. to review and comment on the annual research reports of the university.


Meetings of the URC

Meetings of the committee to be held twice a year, in first and second semesters. The chairperson in consultation with the Director of Research and Grants calls for the meetings.
